Environmental Management & Sustainability Science

Programme directors’ statement

Programme directors’ statement

Dear reader

The EMSS programme is more relevant than ever! The world is facing severe problems related to overpopulation, depletion of resources, climate change, unknown effects of chemical cocktails, insufficient environmental governance systems, etc. Society is in great need for skilled environmental managers in order to face these challenges and to develop and implement sustainable solutions.

At EMSS we draw on a high-level international research community and continuous collaboration with enterprises and organizations to transform good students to skilled environmental managers. We prioritise to let students learn by applying theory in real life situations. The study programme is applying an internationally recognised student-centred and problem-based learning style, which allows the students to go in depth with pertinent sustainability problems.

We have a continuous dialogue with employers of EMSS students and use their input to adjust the EMSS programme, so that the competence profile of EMSS candidates meets the demands of present and future employers. We prioritise the internship semester as a way to match students and companies and to make the students get a head start at the job market.

All this – and much more – you will find more detailed information about on this website.
We hope that you will join the EMSS programme as a student or pass on information about the EMSS programme.

Best regards,
The coordinators of the EMSS programme
Arne Remmen, Henrik Riisgaard & Ivar Lyhne
